The Old Scratch Revival Singers: Oh Didn’t He Ramble – Music Review

13_1803I kept wanting to tell you different things about The Old Scratch Revival Singers, dear readers, but every time I thought I found a good comparison for them, they quickly switched gears into something completely different.

In a super short review, The Old Scratch Revival Singers are awesome, their sound is extremely unique and while bits and pieces may sound reminiscent of other bands, rest assured that as a whole, you can’t find this kinda stuff in your suburban Best Buy.

Old Scratch has a very dark, mellow sound and not just your standard goth fare either as their are what seems to be banjo and horns in addition to the standard haunting vocals, violins, and pianos. The melodies veer from all over the place, later Defiance, Ohio to more calmer Gogol Bordello to places you never thought of before.

The only weak link I could find is the female second vocalist, who’s voice just seems too ‘pretty’ and out of place. Great standout tracks include, “He Saw The Light”, “Going Home”, “Sing My Funeral Bird”, “Blackberry Brandy”,…I’m finding myself just pretty much making the entire track listing here, which has to be a good sign.

Steal this album off the internet, buy it, see them in person, whatever you have to do to listen to The Old Scratch Revival Singers, do it.
