Pretendo: Pretendo II – Music Review

13_1750Pretendo is mall metal at their ‘eh, alright’est along with Bracket like more mellow rock, its almost as if this were two different albums, going off in two different directions cobbled together.

What stands out on this album is the guitar riffs and their catchy hooks.”06-06-06″ is one of the better ones but only because they either have a different vocalist or something on the original singer’s voice.

“Mindy” at first sounds like a plain, sweet, little slow song but at closer listen to the lyrics, its actually pretty funny, “Glory…I mean Gloria, Sophie,..I mean Sophia…Dory…I mean Doria…” as its all just “Wait, no, I mean this girl!” The majority of the more metal-y/harder sounding songs, “My Architect”,”Avoid the Commercials”, etc. aren’t entirely terrible per say, they’re just not as interesting as the rest of the songs as nothing, aside from the ever present catchy guitar riffs is really being brought to the table.

For Pretendo, I would say split this up into two different EPs or two different side projects or just simply take a vacation and think about what kind of band you’d like to be. Diversitys great but when its two completely at odds genres, it just makes for a confusing (and not entirely aurally pleasing) album.

Prentendo and everyone else, wait on this album.
