Catherine Duc: Visions And Dreams – CD Review

11_0628Rating: 2.5/5

This Album did many things right, such setting a relaxing mood, providing great albeit simple instrument playing, and taking the listener into a dream.  Unfortunately, its strengths are also its weaknesses.  The relaxing mood, the dreamy atmosphere, plus the similar sounding tracks makes it a boring album.  Maybe when you fall asleep listening to the album, it’ll give you visions and dreams.

There are no surprises, it’s just some instruments mixed with a pop beat with influences from Asia.  I picked up India, Chinese, and Japanese elements mixed into some of the tracks.  The album is almost entirely instrumental with only a little bit of vocal humming mixed in on one track.  I usually like instrumental albums, but this did not do it for me.  There is no excitement in this album; it’s just the same bland sound from beginning to end with “Incense”, the gem of the album, stuck in the middle.

Yes, I understand that it’s suppose to be peaceful given the album name, but there are frightening visions and nightmares, maybe if Catherine Duc had considered more aspects of both items in the title, we might have a better record.
