Red I Flight: The Years – CD Review

03_0528I swear I think my head was about to explode when I started to listen to Red I Flight’s album “The Years”. My ears were ringing and there was a little bit of sweat starting out come off of my forehead. I know – that sounds a little odd but what I had not known at the time was that I had risen out of my seat and began to slam dance with my wall – it was not very forgiving to me and I still have some bruising to prove it. But what Red I Flight proves is that metal is long from dead. And not just any metal but damn good metal! I am talking Megadeth, Sepultura and Metal Church metal which just pounds your socks off your feet and makes your head slam into things it was not meant to slam in to. That is the nature of metal.

Red I Flight offers some of great banging riffs and vocals that are reminiscent of the greats of metal and there is no sign of stopping in any of the tracks. It was full throttle ass kicking metal from lick one to the very end. High energy and overpowering guitar meets organic, highland drumming to create a set list that is above and beyond anything I have heard in a very, very long time.

Sure – the name does not make a lick of sense but what can you do about that? Not a heck of a lot. It kind of just makes you shake your head in bewilderment. Not everyone can come up with a cool name that screams metal. The Years have been kind, very kind, to Red I Flight because the album as a whole is very well made. Musically the sound is thrashing and ball busting – the true essence of metal. Lyrically Red I Flight is strong, pulsating and constantly changing tones to offer differences in the songs that keep your guessing as well as keep you interested unlike many metal tracks which kind of just melt together – not like that at all here.

If you are a metal head from the day into speed and death sounds that are grinding you so hard you want to wet yourself then get this album and turn your speakers all the way up to eleven because this is that damn good.
