The Rocketz: Rise of the Undead – CD Review

08_0838Being a horror buff and freak that I am I couldn’t pass up a CD called “Rise of the Undead” now could I? Of course not! I’m thinking some brain eating, crushing music and what I got was Poppy Punk stuff with a couple bits of guitar work in the title track.

There isn’t much to the Rockez vocally being pretty one tone with not much emotion. Music is fun, poppy with punk attributes and a bit of SKA thrown in for good measure as in “Long Blonde Hair”.

What really is intriguing is the recurring theme of the undead, Vampires and all “alternative unlike style”. It’s like a soundtrack from Elvira’s old late night horror movie TV show. With songs like “Rise of the Undead”, “Die Zombie Die” and “Vampire’s Sorrow” it’s not a wonder I wouldn’t come to those conclusions and especially with “My Girlfriend” – about bludgeoning the girlfriend.

They are fascinating in the sense that they merge several genre together like Punk, SKA, Swing and Big Band elements to make a fun and pop-riddled music out of the Undead. EMO SKA? Hmmmm.. all in all I won’t say it’s bad. By all means it is not. Musically they are very well put together. Vocals are a bit twitchy but that’s the style. If you want to listen to something unique then certainly pick up The Rocketz.
