The Breakups: Eat Your Heart Out – CD Review

Most men have been where the intro to this disc has gone.. to that time when your girl calls you up and wants to open up her feelings to you and say those three little words that make a lot of guys bolt and I don’t mean “DNA Paternity Test” either.

I think I can describe The Breakups as little evil EMO Leprechauns. It’s got that poppy, pseudo melodic music accompanied by somewhat depressive material lyrically. “Day In The Sun” sounds like a Goth’s idea of a funeral dirge if stuck in the 50’s on set of Beach Blanket Bingo.

With tunes like “Tissue Sample” and “After The Fact” I half expect them to see debuting on the Disney Channel any day now in their own show following Hanna Montanna. Incredibly poppy, easy to understand ho-hum stuff Billy Ray would steal to make his princess sing endlessly.

EMO Leprechauns running around with their heads cut off playing decently arranged songs with nice lyrics and being quite sound in their craftsmanship. If you like crisp pop sounds, EMO style music and good music on a sort of throwback curve then The Breakups are your choice. I liked them after all and I don’t normally like that music.
