Stereochemistry: Wicked Ride – CD Review

With only a handful of songs to review for Stereochemistry it makes it tough to really pinpoint much musical continuity. Stereochemistry upon this short glance is rooted in a sort of classic rock style that sounds like a throwback to 60’s and 70’s rock with some added guts to bring it more into the current mainstream.

A very soulful and musically rich song, “The Porcelain Sound”, is truly a masterful piece. Vocals show great ability in several ranges and pitch. It’s not boring monotone sludge. Musically the guitar is played so sweet and clean. Drums aren’t overused and everything is just very well arranged into something very special.

No good bluesy type band would be complete with an instrumental to showcase the artful musicianship. “Flyswatter” is that song and it really goes a long way to prove these guys practiced so much they have been divorced due to it.

Just when I thought it couldn’t get bad – it does. The title track, “Wicked Ride” is great until the singing comes on. It’s rushes, unclean and just is not at all appetizing to the ears. But I suppose that is the basis of the song – I don’t know.

If it weren’t for the title track this would have been a solid 9.5 or 10 but I have to go with an 8 due to that one song. Shame.
