Rick Cusick: East – CD Review

Rick Cusick, if I didn’t know better, sounds a lot like James Taylor. He has very good vocal skills that are soulful and rich in tone and when he hits the right note you get goose bumps and then you simply understand. “Light I Light” is a great example of a song that uses it’s intro and verses to setup a perfect chorus.

There is nothing but good things to say about Rick Cusick’s CD. Be it “Ride” or “East” all the songs are very well arranged with wonderfully rich lyrics and such clean, crisp vocals that generate emotion.

If I have to be critical of anything it’s lack of variety in the subject matter and musical style. After a time the songs just sort of melt together into a big pot pie – a tasty, well baked pot pie though. I like pot pie.

Considering I spent the time to download songs and add to my MP3 playlist I have to say this is a great album and nearly flawless in its design and implementation. I have to rate this 9 out of 10 just due to lack of song style variety.
