“Lucifer’s Rain” by Stevie B is Sick!

Those in the entertainment industry always ask, “How does someone stand out in an overcrowded room?” The answer is to do something that amazes your audience. And in our humble opinion, Stevie B (https://www.thestevieb.com) has done that.

Not having released a single since his days on Decca Records he’s now returned with a release that’s been garnering quite a bit of attention. “Lucifer’s Rain” (nice wordplay there, B) is a cutting-edge mash-up of metaphors and musical styles. Subject matter-wise, it’s a streetwise observation of the January 6, 2021, DC riots. His biblically framed lyrics cleverly twist and turn so you’re never quite sure of where he stands on the civil war-like uprising between the MAGA militia that stormed our capital and those they battled.

Intentionally employing words and phrases that, depending on your generation, shift in meaning as seamlessly as the sands of time, he manages to narrate the empirical events of that tragic day without ever truly taking one side or the other. Case in point, “…that coup d’etat, what a sick outcome…” While to some the word sick implies ill or infected, to the Gen Z segment of our population something sick means awesome or cool.

Even the reoccurring word “rain”, an obvious play on “reign”, is worked deftly to piston our mental machinery to envision how ideas, and even lies, often soak through and into our brains, much as in the way the wetness of water soaks into any porous surface:

Lucifer’s rain, oh what a time

Soaked through the skin and into the minds

Demons summoned, eye of God gone blind

Obeying commands from a conman’s mind

Cast from the kingdom without a crown

Gathered deplorables from farms and towns

To do his bidding, refused to step down

Transfer of power scorched and burnt down

Stevie recorded the single with the help of only two other multi-talented musicians. As the B spits out the vocals on the track the other members of this tiny power trio handle all the instruments. Japanese percussionist Erika Flower pitches in with subliminal conga patterns and sultry backing vocals, while record producer Douglas Fabiano provides the remainder of the instrumentation on the project.

What makes “Lucifer’s Rain” even more mind-blowing is the music video made for the song. What is perhaps a groundbreaking first, as well as a glimpse into the future, this multimedia visual production was made possible by using AI (Artificial Intelligence). Oh mama, the robots have not only arrived but now they’re also accessories in hipster art! Take a peek for yourself and have a look below.
