Addicted to Pop – Self Titled Debut EP Review

613yHMBLFuL._SL500_AA280_Addicted to Pop – the moniker of former Broken Poets’ member, Lana Antropova, has released a 5-track self-titled EP. Listeners that enjoy traditional pop music and synthesizer tunes will find much to love.

And, goodness, I love me a good synthesized track!

Starting out with “Mail-Order Bride,” Addicted to Pop introduces the song with a Russian – Gypsy acoustic guitar sound; thank you to Wikipedia for giving me the correct term ‘balalaika.’ Soon this refreshing vocal and carefree song delivers an interesting mix of computerized music blushing with rich lyrics. The song is heartfelt with an underlying sadness.

“Fleeing Time” has a hypnotic music bed. The vocals are pretty, but not trite. Antropova commands the listener not with her fierceness but calming spirit and natural empathy.

The standout track, ” The World Around Us,” holds the listener close in an ethereal dance. This song ignited my imagination. With its natural movement, the tune rides perfectly between the line of computerization and organic orchestration.

“My Real Name” and “Outcast” round out the collection. They are both consistently interesting . “Outcast” the most electronic of all the selections.

Overall, Addicted to Pop’s debut effort garners a solid A rating. Fans of Lana Del Ray will likely enjoy these songs. With their overflowing harmonies and infectious beats, Addicted to Pop delivers memorable songs.
