A Good Day to Die Hard (2013) – Movie Review

20130602_0856A Good Day to Die Hard is another successful movie directed by John Moore. It has a runtime of 89 minutes and classified under the action, crime, thriller genre. The screenplay of this 5th installment in the Die hard film series was written by Skip Woods.

The plot and story progression is fine and I did not get bored in the entire duration of the movie. I love the car chase as well as the helicopter scenes. The good cinematography from Jonathan Sela and fascinating music score of Marco Beltrami are just some of the nice features of the movie.

This movie is about a father and son who have not seen each other for quite sometime. The father came to rescue his son accused of a crime. His disappointment was replaced with hope as he realizes he did not fail as a parent after all. Working for the same cause, they ended up fighting together against the underworld forces to prevent nuclear weapon heist.

John McClane (Bruce Willis) is the father who wants to save his wayward son John or Jack McClane Jr.( Jai Courtney). Komorov (Sebastian Koch) is the political prisoner who is holding a very important file. Irina (Yuliya Snigir) is the daughter of Komorov. Collins (Cole Hauser) is the CIA operative and Jack’s partner and Lucy (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) is Mc Clanes’ oldest child.

Aside from the outstanding acting performances of the father and son, one thing that amused me was the character of the Cabbie (Pavel Lychnikoff) who sang the famous Frank Sinatra’s song “New York, New York” while driving John to the courthouse for his son’s trial.

This is truly an action movie because of the stunning car chase and car stunts. McClanes’ driving on top of the other cars just to help his beleaguered son with his minivan against the armored truck carried by the bad guys is something you need to watch. This is an exciting movie with some dialogues injected with humor. You’ve got to watch how John demobilize the armored truck to save his son. There’s a nice work tandem and chemistry between Bruce and Jai. What should be a vacation for Bruce became an action filled encounter with the bad guys.

The twist of events is what added more thrill and suspense to the movie. Although the son failed in his mission initially, it did not deter their spirits to continue pursuing after the bad guys. Though John disliked his father, they are both the same when it comes to bravery and work ethics. They tried saving Komarov but then realizes that the man they intend to save is not worth their efforts after all.

The movie is exciting and I am satisfied at how it ends. Not only did John and Jack solve a crime but also mend their relationship. This is good for the thrill and action movie goers.
