American Princes: Other People – Music Review

Pop punks American Princes are truly worthy of their moniker . You have to almost sing these tunes with a British accent .I love that punk rock Crooner sound out front and the oohs in “Auditorium” are an invitation to rock out, it won’t hurt none. You wont feel nothing. This track is a school dance and the band spiked the punch with this sick groove and retro guitar sounds. Fuzzy birds with a country twang in the rhythm guitars. “Son of California” is reminiscent of late 80’s Cure, again the arrangements are true to the sound backed up by the rockin guitars and the do dos of the background vocals . Rich chorus sound so true to the New Wave and Punk bands of the 80’s .

Listening to this band takes you back to more optimistic times and the early days of MTV but with that smart yet cynical sensibility. These American Princes are dutiful pupils of pop’s past with their command of the back beat and the dead on Bowie sound. They deliver their legacy with a sucker punch . Their songs are a definite chronicle of lives on the radio. You ride the radio dial. The mass saturation of the music market has not gotten to these guys. They definitely have impecccable taste and it shows in the arrangements. Nothing is overdone, the groove is not sacrificed for showboating and the supporting vocals are always on point. Really fun tracks that have you pogoing all over your room.

Kid incinerator is smoking…. David Slade and Collin Kilgore are next in line for the throne of legendary songwriters and they back it up with a sensitive fine tuned unit. Their poignant yet hard driven songs have earned them best album of 2008 by Magnet magazine, the adoration of their fans and the respect and envy of their peers.

“Other People” is full of tales from an observers perspectiv, it’s telling you to pay attention and not to miss this.
