Charlize Theron was so ill that she had to be admitted to a Los Angeles hospital last week. The Oscar winner spent four nights in hospital after developing severe stomach pains, which she initially put down to food poisoning.
When the pain did not go away, Theron’s boyfriend, the actor and director Stuart Townsend, took her to Cedars Sinai Medical Centre. After tests, the South African-born actress was diagnosed with a serious virus thought to have been contracted overseas. Townsend told friends: “I was scared to death. I had no idea what was happening to her. But this is a woman who never complains, so I knew it had to be serious.”
