Tunsi: Special Delivery – CD Review

12_0656Tunsi delivers what I would like to call old school, to the streets hip hop. When you first listen to the licks of the music the first thing that generates is a picture of some guys dressed in matching athletic wear break dancing on cardboard until the Po Po comes to bust ‘em.

I will be the first to admit that, in my old age, my tolerance for rap and hip hop is nearly nonexistent considering the influx of material that just either is not too good or sounds completely the same. I despite music that relies on the repetition of the artists name or their producer – it’s irritating. Tunsi, thankfully, is nothing remotely like that.

Special Delivery is unique. The music is a mixture of disjointed, non-sampled instruments combined with synthesized licks. Lyrics are what you would expect minus the vulgarity that many are currently associating with hip hop – it is good.

You know – Tunsi is refreshing because he is unique. It is as if he is saying screw you status quo and concentrating on actually being creative – and different. That is what will makes Tunsi really memorable because he sounds nothing like Rapper A and Hip Hopper B. He is truly in a category by himself and he should be proud he had the creative notion to do something really different. I would recommend the CD to fans of hip hop and people who don’t really like it.

I think Tunsi could bridge a few gaps with this artistry. Hip Hop needs a new voice because the usual grouping of Jay Z, Diddy and whoever else is all the same. I make this money – you don’t make this money… my chick has a fatter booty and I get to hit it etc. etc. Tunsi, on the other hand, actually talks about politics and more important things than your typical greed and putting a cap in yo ass.
