Texas Blood Money: Fight Your Delusions – CD Review

I have to admit that the name of the band interested me because it sounds like a cool ass video game or a film plot for someone knocking off people at the World Poker Tournament. A name means a lot in the music industry and I think they picked a pretty sweet one.

Growing up on Rock N’Roll gave me an appreciation for it. You know – I listened to a lot of rock from Folk Rock like James Taylor to Hair Metal like Poison. Throw in Motorhead, Dio and Megadeth – it is all a form of rock. I love it because Rock is aggressive. Rock takes you by the hair and slams your face into a plate glass window. Rock grabs you by the balls and tells you to like it. It is not polite – it is not pop music. Real rockers know how to jam and kick ass doing it. Texas Blood Money is up in the boot in your face pack.

Musically they are pounding on all cylinders. The guitar work reminds me of old Dave Mustaine with some filtering thrown in there for good measure. Vocally they are nearly there – it is a little odd to hear someone sing clean like you would expect from bands like Nickelback or whatever then to get into hardcore deaf metal licks like Metal Church. But you know what – it works. It works great. It does so because it adds variety and spice to the band an to the music without having to change a damn thing about them. they are able to incorporate the nitty gritty of rock with flawless musical style.

There is nothing advanced here – not by any means – but so what. You don’t need all this fancy guitar crap or Tommy Lee drumming – that’s for when you are so pretentious you need people to think you are hot crap. Texas Blood Money gives you that without the pomp and filler. I will add the entire CD to my MP3 playlist because there isn’t a song that is it not good. Not a guitar lick, drum solo or vocal run that didn’t work.
