Signal 7: Service With A Smile – CD Review

07_0625 Beginning with some off the wall “I think I may take this studio time to tune my crap” intro the song “Aim” pulls the trigger and fires off with some ripping guitar and basic drum stuff along with crusty vocals that remind me a bit like Karaoke singers trying to perform Metallica classics after a couple of boiler makers. I think rock sheds a lone tear over this one.

Despite some tough criticisms “Can I” pulls out a good showing with vocals more of a match to the majority of the musical arrangement. You can still draw the Metallica comparisons.

To show what I can only describe as musical growth they hit us with the never going to be a hit “Robot Shit”. This Beck wannabe tune simply doesn’t go anywhere until it begins to crush – then it’s just music with some screaming – and I must say he sounds better screaming, doing the deaf metal thing.

Signal 7 is quite unremarkable no matter which song you listen to. Speaking strictly about the music, the instrumentation that is it’s good. A lot of redeemable qualities until the vocals kick in and the lyrics are heard.

A very decent cover band at best. Musically the songs are good, the singing takes time to get behind because it’s so odd sounding – trying incredibly hard to be metal with those gravely undertones. Throw in a handful of swear words along with unremarkable lyrics and a cover band is born.
