Music Review: London Has Fallen ‘Into the Night’ EP

into-the-night-2015-ep-cover-v3Rockford, Ill., alt rockers London Has Fallen take a steampunk approach in their debut ‘Into The Night.’ Laden with punk, electro, rock and of course outstanding vocals, there’s no fog between solid music and their new listeners.

“What You Wanted” paints strong images and lands into both pop and alt rock genres. The music bed is strong, but most noticeable are Gates’ vocals. She delivers like Amy Lee (Evanescence), is not quite rough like Lzzy Hale (Halestorm) but raises the level a notch like Ann Wilson (Heart).

Many of the songs on the EP have this lovely piano music bed meshed with solid guitar riffs and subtle percussions. They definitely have a formula and while some of the songs have this consistent pattern, the twists and turns Gates takes with her vocals wrap themselves around the lyrics and orchestrations like a cyclone. In the title track, as well as in  “Empty Tomorrow” she takes hold of an escalating tempo and seemingly fearlessly swings for the fences.

“Leave Me Broken” is chilling, layered with rock and brash lyrics. This song brings gothic and a black-lacquere approach smack against a subtle electronic beat.

Overall, very high marks for London Has Fallen. At only four tracks, ‘Into The Night’ is well worth the trip.  Quirky electro tones, spellbinding vocals await!
