Sucker Punch (2011) – Movie Review

WOW. Not 100% sure why I liked this film so much, but WOW. This film feels like it was made for me personally. It brings all of the things we geeks who played Dungeons & Dragons, Warzone, and Warhammer 40,000 to another level of reality, and put it up on the big screen. With its strong flavor of Japanese animation, cool visual effects and killer fusion of music into key scenes this film takes you for a ride. Not to say that the scantly clad stars with guns and swords didn’t add an additional appeal for me.

But, I guess what is most profound with this over the top action fiick is that I left the theater and felt both sad and happy at the same time. The sadness came from looking at the story as a whole. This is a tragic tale full with bravery, and hope. The happiness comes from knowing that this movie was able to invoke an emotion from me. There have been so many other films that promise so much, but this one doesn’t promise it just delivers. I guess that’s where the “Sucker Punch” comes in.

This film is not for everyone, but I liked it…
