“American Idol” winner Fantasia Barrino was hospitalized Monday night for a medication overdose, sources tell NewsChannel 36.
Barrino was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville at about 8:55 p.m. Monday, according to sources.
The sources say doctors at CMC noted that Barrino’s condition was not life-threatening.
The sources did not know what type of medication was involved, and it was not known whether the overdose was accidental or intentional.
Barrino has made headlines recently after being named in a lawsuit and accused of making a sex tape with a married man.
NewsChannel 36 reported on Friday that Barrino was named in court documents involving Paula and Antwuan Cook. A complaint filed Wednesday by Paula Cook says her husband began having an affair with Barrino in August 2009.
The complaint references a sex tape as one possible element to prove an affair. Court documents say the “Husband and Ms. Barrino have at times recorded their illicit sexual activity.”
On Monday, Barrino’s manager released a statement to TMZ, saying Barrino is “certain that she is not responsible for the deterioration of Cook’s marriage.”
Her manager did not mention the alleged sex tape.
