Various local news helicopter pilots saw the plane go down near Deer Valley Airport. When it crashed it burst into a cloud of flames that could be seen for miles away. Crews were spraying water on the charred debris against a building in the airport’s industrial area.
Phoenix police spokesman Detective James Holmes says witnesses around the area heard the plane’s engine start to sputter before it turned downward. He says the plane first struck a brick wall and then ran into a building on the airport’s northwest side.
