The ESPN reporter is suing several hotel chains for negligence and invasion of privacy in connection with the peeping Tom who secretly videotaped her naked.
The lawsuit, filed Thursday in Chicago, accuses divorced dad Michael David Barrett—who has since pleaded guilty to stalking the reporter — of deliberate infliction of emotional distress and invasion of privacy.
Andrews, 32, is suing Marriott International Inc. and Radisson Hotels International Inc. claiming the hotels told Barrett that she was staying there, revealed her room number and immediately provided the perv a hotel room adjacent to hers.
“Although I'll never be able to fully erase the impact that this invasion of privacy has had upon me and my family, I do hope that my experience will cause the hospitality industry to be more vigilant in protecting its guests from the time they reserve a hotel room until they check out,” Andrews said in a statement, which was published by CNN.
The hotels did not return requests seeking comments.
Barrett, 47, rented the rooms adjacent to Andrews in three cities in 2008, altered the peepholes and shot videos of Andrews in two of the locations.
In March a federal judge in Los Angeles sent Barrett to two and a half years behind bars for stalking the reporter who was once named “America's Sexiest Sportscaster” by Playboy magazine.
He was also ordered to register as a sex offender.
Barrett was accused of uploading the videos to the Internet, where Andrews is seen curling her hair naked in front of a mirror, and trying to sell them to celebrity gossip site TMZ last year.
Several TV networks and newspapers aired or published images of Andrews taken from the videos.
Andrews said she filed the civil suit “to hold accountable those who put my personal safety at risk and who allowed my privacy to be invaded while I was a guest at their hotel, as well as for actually stalking me and making my most personal moments public.”
