Rory McIlroy is just 21, and totally kicked butt at the opening day of the British Open 2010 today. He's from Northern Ireland, and currently leading the competition — and set the record for the lowest-ever round at a major championship with a 9-under par 63 today.
In second place at the end of the day today is South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen with a 65, and the 1995 British Open winner John Daly is a shot behind that, then comes Tiger Woods with a 67. It's still anyone's game, but McIlroy's impressive start must be a bit daunting to the much-older crowd.
“The course was there to be taken apart,” McIlroy said. “There are a lot of scores out there which are really good and I'm very happy to be in the clubhouse with a 63.”
