NHL: Buffalo Sabres have signed center Rob Niedermayer

The 35-year-old Niedermayer, who won a Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks in 2007, has scored 181 goals and registered 269 assists in 1,082 NHL games.

Niedermayer, who became a free agent on July 1, was drafted fifth overall by the Florida Panthers in 1993. The Canadian played eight seasons with Florida before stints in Calgary, Anaheim and, most recently, the New Jersey Devils.

Niedermayer will offer experience to a Sabres team that entered the playoffs last season as the third seed but suffered a first-round upset to the Boston Bruins.
