WILLIAMSPORT , PENN. – Fifty years ago, in the autumn of 1959, American musical history was made. With the release of their fourth album, “Here We Go Again,” The Kingston Trio simultaneously placed four albums in Billboard’s Top Ten Album Chart — a feat never attained before or the 40 years since, even by The Beatles.
Now, fifty years later, The Front Porch Country Band has released their own fourth album, “Here We Go Again,” in quiet tribute to the trailblazing group who half a century ago accepted their very first Grammy Award for Country and Western Performance.
This is not the first time The Front Porch Country Band has tipped their hats to their musical mentors. The band’s first full-length album, “Somebody Tonight,” expresses the band’s thanks to The Kingston Trio for their musical inspiration.
As Bob Shane, a founding member of The Kingston Trio told “Original American Country” from his home in Phoenix , “we did three or four albums a year and toured 280 days a year … nobody’s ever heard of that since then. We didn’t call ourselves folk singers We were just guys having a good time chasing chicks. They didn’t have a folk-singing category the first year of the Grammy’s … they wanted to give us a Grammy for ‘Tom Dooley” so they used us to help country music out. We won the first Grammy ever given for best country and western presentation that year.”
Shane recently came off the road after nearly a half century performing with The Kingston Trio. Yet the legendary American music treasure he founded more than 50 years ago continues touring nationwide.
“We are saluting the creativity, energy and long-standing popularity of The Kingston Trio by titling our new album ‘Here We Go Again,’” says Rick Buck, lead guitarist and one of the founding members of The Front Porch Country Band. “They’re our musical inspiration.”
“Here We Go Again” showcases the soaring six-part harmonies and dazzling play of one of America ’s greatest guitar bands. Taken as a whole, the album is tour deforce — a musical odyssey that never lets up with listeners hitching a musical ride from the northern Canadian border to the southern Mississippi delta. The music travels from the sun-drenched western Pacific to the eastern blue Atlantic, with stopovers in Alaska , Hawaii , Asia, and even Europe , along the way.
The Front Porch Country Band was formed in 2001 and has previously released the following albums: “Hot Rock Comes to the Country,” “America Standing Tall,” “Somebody Tonight” and “The World China Tour.” The band includes six singer/songwriters who make their homes in Pennsylvania ’s scenic Susquehanna Valley .
