THE LOW ANTHEM RELEASE NEW VIDEO FOR "CHARLIE DARWIN," CONTINUE TOUR

Rhode Island trio The Low Anthem have released a brand new stop-motion video for the lead song, “Charlie Darwin” on their Nonesuch debut,Oh My God, Charlie Darwin. The band has been touring the US with Blind Pilot, and after a brief stopover in Europe, will finish out the year with Josh Ritter in December.

Check out the Stereogum premiere of “Charlie Darwin” – “If you’re unfamiliar with the group, fans of Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes should take note. Fans of Low, too.”

The video for “Charlie Darwin” was produced by End of the Road Films. Glenn Z Taunton and Simon Taffe, a portion of the design team behind The End of the Road Festival, assembled a small team of painters, carpenters and handymen at a studio in Sussex, England to craft the stop-frame animated video for The Low Anthem’s “Charlie Darwin.” The crew and designers worked sleepless nights to create a film that captures the hand-made look stop-frame animation is known for. Taffe’s End of the Road Records was one of the band’s first supporters, putting out The Low Anthem’s first release in the UK, a hand-silkscreened 7″ single for “Charlie Darwin.” The band performed at the festival this year as well, where they earned rave reviews.

Paste has named Oh My God, Charlie Darwin one of the best albums of 2009 so far, UNCUT has the album on their Music Award shortlist, it was a New York Times Critic’s Pick, and NPR‘s Bob Boilen coined the song “Charlie Darwin” the best of the year so far.

“Stately…Lyrics contemplating faith, loss, destruction and self-destruction.” – New York Times

“Stunning…They deserve everything said about them.” – BBC

“At times languid and haunting, but with detours into Tom Waits-esque stomping and hollering, The Low Anthem’s music seems equally informed by Simon & Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, The Band and a late-night ride home in Joni Mitchell’s car.” – NPR

“Gorgeous chamber folk…Following the path cleared by Nick Drake and Tim Buckley, and now well trod by folks like Sufjan Stevens and Sam Beam, The Low Anthem is at its best composing songs fit for a hipster orchestra, with Knox’s delicate vocals backed by an assortment of quirky instrumentation.” – Paste

“One of the breakthrough albums of 2009… A highly eventful journey into American songcraft, variously echoing Dylan, Springsteen, The Band, and Tom Waits.” – MOJO

“Really beautiful… The great music, it’s not what you play; it’s what you don’t play.” – Billy Bragg (PROJO)
