Taylor Lautner: Not Love-Triangle

While a large portion of “Twilight” fans are firmly on Team Edward, “New Moon” star Taylor Lautner thinks Team Jacob members value something special in their relationships. Though as the portrayer of teen werewolf Jacob Black, he just might be a little biased.

Lautner described the Jacob fans in the October issue of Teen Vogue as girls who like “having a really close friendship with a guy, being able to tell him anything and then having that friendship slowly transform into something more. … I find myself using the word transform a lot lately,” he added, “because that’s what Jacob does.”

Lautner described how he transformed himself to play Jacob in “New Moon” by “hitting the gym, hiring a personal trainer, eating the right foods and eating a lot of them.” But despite all his hard work on his body, the actor said the real fans love Jacob because of the character’s own qualities. “I think the fans would love anybody who played Jacob,” he told the magazine. “I’m just lucky to be the one who got the chance.”

Lautner said he was apprehensive when his karate coach encouraged him to try acting as a kid, but he soon realized he really enjoyed it. “Taking on roles that were the opposite of what I could be in real life? That’s still my favorite thing,” he said.

And as for that other aspect of his life in showbiz — the constant media attention — the 17-year-old said he tries not to let it bother him. “There are 12 cars that camp outside my house,” he said. “You can’t ever really get used to it, because it’s not normal to have people snapping pictures of everything you do. You just have to try not to let it affect you.”

And what about all those rumors that much like in “Twilight,” he and Robert Pattinson are battling it out for Kristen Stewart’s attention? “It’s crazy,” he said. “But the fans help. They’re a big part of the motivation.”
