The difficulty of maintaining a long-distance relationship is at the heart of NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS, a deeply personal and intimate new romantic drama from independent American filmmaker Joe Swanberg. The acclaimed feature film comes to DVD from IFC Films via MPI Media Group on August 25, 2009. The DVD release follows the film’s premiere at the SXSW Music and Film Festival and its theatrical run last fall at the IFC Center in New York. The DVD, which includes deleted scenes, has an SRP of $24.98.
Swanberg and his co-writer and co-director, Greta Gerwig, previously created 2007’s boldly naturalistic “Hannah Takes the Stairs,” and here continue their remarkable collaboration. They star as James and Mattie, twenty-somethings who are very much in love but are struggling to keep their relationship going – he lives in Chicago and she’s based in Brooklyn. Their visits to each other are becoming less about the pleasures of being together and more about the difficulties of syncing up their separate lives.
