Vinyl Soup: Brandon And Travis – Music Review

04_1854I’m not exactly sure what Vinyl Soup is trying to do with this album. It’s not bad per say but it reminds me of Slow Gherkin’ in that at times, it’s lack luster ska but then at other points, it’s lack luster rock. Track two, “Brandon and Travis” features a long (extremely long) guitar and keyboard solo that is somewhat rock, but not quite although at times, the keyboards are kind of impressive. For the most part, I’m looking at the clock though as nothing really is standing out.

Thankfully, the next song “Shelter” brings back my interest as it’s more of a catchy second-third wave ska tune. It has a really great, melancholy opening/refrain but the rest of the song does not manage to keep up and sounds almost like two songs were cobbled together as it keeps randomly picking up and slowing down. I’d sit this one out if I were you and maybe give ’em another try with the second release.
