The Crash Moderns: Good Night Glamour Good Morning Disaster – Music Review

20_0722If you regularly rock out to the likes of Good Charlotte, Fall Out Boy, or Bowling For Soup, do yourself a favor and lend an ear to The Crash Moderns, a red-hot and supremely versatile five-piece power pop group from New York City. Their debut album, “Good Night Glamour, Good Morning…” establishes an innovative voice and refreshing flavor of dance-pop rock with a unique style that is not easily characterized.

With a little something for everybody, the tracks of “Good Night Glamour” satisfy every musical sweet tooth, from the perky rockabilly swing of the “Everybody Hates Me”, to the rollicking So-Cal pop punk of “Pimp My Life”, to the cocky rock-infused swagger of “Solid Gold”.  With the songs “Solid Gold” (my track of choice for this album) and “Make it Stop” The Crash Moderns recognize the importance of a split-second of silence in the middle of a song. Following that striking moment, the way they quickly rebuild the instrumental layers piece by piece transforms the entire feel of the song, and also allows a quicker ascent to a more powerful musical climax.

Although The Crash Moderns do not directly fall into one niche with “Good Night Glamour”, they certainly do not suffer from the identity crisis to which so many bands fall victim in debut albums.  The Crash Moderns know exactly who they are, and where they belong: comfortably seated somewhere and everywhere between Blink 182 (minus a few cases of Red Bull), American Hi-Fi, and the Ataris.  While each song is remarkably different from every other, The Crash Moderns’ debut album “Good Night Glamour, Good Morning…” without a doubt will satisfy your pop-rock craving with their distinctive approach.  The tuneful and incredibly catchy melodies will keep you humming long after your first listen, and tracks like “This Time”, “Everybody Hates Me” and “Solid Gold” will have you hitting your iPod’s repeat button for weeks.
