Austin Atteberry & Friends: Clothes Minded Folk – CD Review

04_0444Rating: 0.5/5

Austin Atteberry needs to take a writing class and learn the kind of cliché he needs to avoid before writing an album full of overly used, bad lyrics.  If you don’t runaround telling a girl that you are going to love her forever, don’t write them in the lyrics; also, please don’t use anymore sunshine/rain contrast or the word angel, they are too common.  If Atteberry has an ounce of imagination, he could have written better, wittier lyrics, even if they are about love.  But then I guess this is the type of songs that can make it commercial.

Something else that can sell: a pop sound.  The problem with a pop sound is that there is no edge in it.  The fact that there is no thought provoking lyrics aside, there is no energy with this album.  Atteberry’s vocal delivery comes with the trait of modern pop singers: the pretension that the lyrics are actually meaningful and the not so manly/flat voice that gets on my nerves after two minutes.  To think I had to listen to the entire hour-long album.

To make matters worse, Atteberry likes to show off his guitar skills, of which he doesn’t have much to begin with.  There are no highlights in this album to speak of.  Please avoid this album when you are shopping for CDs, unless of course, you are still not satisfied with the millions of better written and delivered loves songs already out there.
