“Russian Heritage and Culture Day”

The Russian-American society to be honored for their work and dedication in hopes of bettering their community on May 7, 2009 in New York .

Manhattan, New York- For the 8th consecutive year, The Be Proud Foundation in conjunction with the City Council of New York, will gather at City Hall to once again praise Russian-Americans for their efforts to go above and beyond in hopes of improving their community cluster.

Eight years ago, The City Council of New York felt it was necessary to recognize those Russian-Americans who have dedicated their time and effort to improving the quality of life for fellow Russian-Speakers in the New York area. Whether it be the police department or theater, Russian-Americans have managed to make their mark in all aspects of typical American society. New York has a growing Russian-speaking population and it is essential that we acknowledge their strives, socially and/or economically.

This year the City Council will be honoring nine phenomenal associates of the community. NY Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly will be addressing our guests at this very special evening. Amongst them we will remember, Russel Timoshenko, an NYPD officer who was killed in the line of duty, Russel’s parents will be accepting the award on his behalf. Kiril Kulish, a talented young man, who at the age of fourteen has accomplished unprecedented greatness including the lead role in Broadway’s critically acclaimed musical “Billy Elliot”. A Grand Chief Rabbi, Itzhak Yehoshua well known all over the Bukharian Jewish community.
