Should the world’s oldest profession be taxed? World Famous Moonlite BunnyRanch does not agree with this proposition

Should the world’s oldest profession be taxed? Senator Bob Coffin thinks that it should, “We’re desperate to find money for essential government services, so I will go anywhere to do that.”(1) The BunnyRanch does not agree with this proposition. “It is appalling that the Senator has turned to tax paying brothels to further tax the industry in his desperation to find funds for the state of Nevada,” said Dennis Hof the owner of the Moonlite BunnyRanch. The BunnyRanch is one of the highest tax payers in Lyon County with over six figures paid annually compared to chain fast food restaurants who sell millions of burgers annually and only pay in a couple hundred dollars annually. Why should prostitutes’ earnings be further taxed and not the fast food restaurants?

Senate Bill 368, sponsored by Sen. Bob Coffin, D-Las Vegas, would impose an excise tax of $5 a day on anyone that uses the services of a prostitute, legal or illegal.(2) How will these illegal prostitutes be taxed? Should the Senator next suggest that we set up a “Prostitute Tax Booth” in every casino? So that prior to every sex act performed the illegal prostitute and her John must pay the five dollars and in turn receive a “right to make love card.”

Even if the Senator is able to receive the two thirds approval in the Senate and the Assembly the Nevada State Governor does not appear to give his blessings to this bill. “I’m not a supporter of legalizing prostitution in Nevada. So by taxing it, there’s a recognition of the legality of it,” stated Governor Jim Gibbons.(3) “Well I am not a supporter of speed limits so should I ignore the legality of them and drive as fast as I want?” asked Dennis Hof.
