XO ‘Lovers Blood’ Review

98-web1Weirdly erotic and strangely hypnotic, XO delivers plenty of beats in the electro-industrial-dance ‘Lovers Blood.’ It’s vintage New Order meets Nine Inch Nails meets Lana Del Ray meets Armin Van Burren. And, it’s devastatingly good.

“Love Me Inside” is dark, provocative. It’s as if a tiger is breathing down your neck, ready to pounce. Judging by the song title and the heavy sighs, that’s not what it is about (duh). Still, the mood is almost chilling.

In”Lick You Up” a more upbeat tempo steals the moment. The heavy-on-the-synth piece is almost sensory overload. In a good way, of course.

“We Live Again” is more trippy. It pulsates. The track is heavy with  drum machine. At first listen, the tune is very repetitive, and vocals almost mindless. However, the song tears into your senses, breathing in new life and new images.

As the tracks tumble along, “Hex,” “Sunlight Heart” and “Keep Going,” it’s evident to the listener that XO gives herself into these songs. The listener feels in tune with each note; XO gets the most out of every sound.

“Hyperventilating” sounds very industrial. The start-stop introduction is soon veiled with beats that shove the listener across from one side of the room to the other. XO’s vocals are full of goth emotion.

Overall, XO ‘Lovers Blood” garners an A review. As bizarre as the tracks are, they are equally amazing. With surprising depth and genre-bending orchestration, XO delivers a strong collection.
