This video was a long time coming. Some quick FARRAH FIRE (farrahfire.com) band history: her first official band was THE MUSHROOMS formed in 1986, the song “Darkness City” Farrah wrote with her ex-husband, and he held her and the band hostage till their divorce.
Four bands later still working with John Lynch, her drummer in her new underground band BETTYFORD, Hilly Kristal the owner of CBGB’s the famous Punk Rock club in NYC introduced Genya Ravan to Farrah (Genya is known for her hit record with the DEAD BOYS). In 1993 Farrah recorded her first album, which included the song “Darkness City” on it, with her band BETTYFORD, Genya produced it. BETTYFORD received heavy airplay on 400 college & regular radio stations very fast, but after two months they ran out of money.
Farrah had something, but was paralyzed underground. Still, the band continued to record and perform live until 2002. Then while being Interviewed on REALITY CHECK TV about her past as a Hard Rock Lead singer and current life as a dancer during the AVN’ 2009 (Porn Convention) in Las Vegas going under her past alias, “Bambie”, she awoke and for the first time stated she was a dancer publicly in conjunction with her Rock career.
She had been dancing too long to deny it although she was singing in a rock bands before she danced. FARRAH FIRE was founded on September 27th, 2013 and is her first official band where she now uses her performer alias as her band name to the horror of family.
The video made for the song “Darkness City” was filmed in a NYC the end of 2016-17 starting in a yellow cab scene for two hours focused on Tompkins Square Park, the black cube on Astor Place, and the NYC cityscapes from the Williamsburg Bridge to Manhattan and back on Manhattan Bridge to Brooklyn.
The scenes with the peace head were about bringing to life a piece of art she made during the era of writing “Darkness City”. The scene with Farrah licking the black rose and stroking the black guitar were shot at home with the stuff lying around her apartment while she lounged at home in Brooklyn. The intro and exit tracks were shot and recorded in her Volkswagen in NY State near Nyack when Farrah’s cars muffler was shot. The vamp guy in the painting, Farrah told me, was a druggie guy she partied with back in the 80’s and the woman in the painting is supposed to represent her.
Farrah moved like a walking stiff in the park scene, seems like those fire boots were more for looks than comfort. Also, I was disappointed that she did not display her derriere anywhere in the video. I mean she’s already shown it to the dance world, why keep it off the video? The lip-synching was 98% pretty good for a first official music video, although it took way too long (I mean more than two decades) to get around to doing a video. That’s ridiculous. Please get the next video out faster and maybe in the future a new song too, written like today. Although I must admit I really do like the original recording and I’ll cut you some slack because this music is still relevant today and new to the world, and even though you’re unapologetically late and a dollar short, FARRAH FIRE you rock!!!
