NBC & HBO attend NO SEPARATE JUSTICE VIGIL at Metropolitan Correction NYC

Tausif Khan of No Separate Justice, speaking,”95% of terror prosecutions by the Federal Gov used some form of, Preemptive Prosecution, prosecuting someone Before they have committed a crime”. People are being held in horrific conditions who have committed No crime, found by Project Salam entitled Inventing Terrorists.

No Separate Justice, who has been holding monthly vigils at the MCC, 150 Park Row in lower Manhattan right next door to One Police Plaza, where many of those mentioned are being held.

NSJ has been holding monthly Monday vigils in front of the MCC for a couple of years and has highlighted one detainee each month.

This time the vigil focused on all of those being held for bogus reasons and have not even been charged of any crime. Pre Trial Solitary Confinement and harsh punishment under the “assumption” of guilt by the US Gov.

Attorney Lynne Stewart and her husband Ralph Poynter were also there to support those being unjustly held all around the country and the world.

Naomi Braine, Associate Professor of Sociology from Brooklyn College, spoke on the Senate CIA Torture Report. Naomi said we’re not likely to hear about on the News except maybe on Democracy Now,,”The history of torture we’re likely to hear in this country from Progressives by the School of the America’s. The CIA and the Military taught torture techniques in the 80’s & 90’s to the Military Police in Central and south America.” This country was well versed in these techniques, Naomi said, way before the War on Terror.  “The Torture we Don’t hear about, she went on, is that many of the Abu Ghraib soldiers who were prosecuted for acts of abuse have a history of working in the prison system in the United States” “The Homan warehouse in Chicago existed for years and was know to lawyers who did indigent defense”, “it did not hit the air waves until a group of white, Political arrestees were taken there and disappeared.”

Senior Staff attorney, Pardiss Kebriaei of CCR also spoke, the focus put on post 911 Gov abuses. She spoke about the connection between Guantanamo and the abuses in facilities right here in the U.S. and in NYC at the MCC, Manhattan “Correctional” Center. Pardiss mentioned an Interrogator, the Chicago detective,Richard Zuley, who used brutal interrogation methods for years; shackling people to the walls, threatening family members with death. That same interrogator goes to Guantanamo in late 2002 and was involved in the brutal interrogation of Mohamedou Slahi. Other’s being held, Fahad Hashmi and Ghaleb Al Bihani held without charge for 13 years, “being held on the basis of broad associations, tenuous associations, not actual culpable conduct”. Things like, being an assistant cook for a group aligned with the Taliban in Afghanistan. Not actually fighting but cooking for fighters.

After all the speakers were finished the demonstrators took yellow flowers that were handed out by Sally Eberhart from No Separate Justice and walked single file across  the street to the MCC holding up their signs, where they placed the flowers on the sidewalk. DSC03781 DSC03823 DSC03824 DSC03830 DSC03844 DSC03847 DSC03857 DSC03864
