First Stop! John Brennan’s house on Sat Jan 10th With Medea Benjamin and members of Code Pink, other activists like David Swanson and members from Witness Against Torture like Jeremy Varon protested outside John Brennan’s home in McLean. VA to expose the fact that unjust Torture is being used on the detainees in Guantanamo who are still being held and tortured even after being cleared for release years ago.
One activist credited the NY Times for using the word TORTURE in a piece they did on John Brennan due to the actions that the activists did in front of John Brennan’s house last year. The word Torture was never used until the Activist made the connection. “The NYTimes uses the Word Torture on a Regular basis is very much credited to this community, Code Pink & Witness Against Torture”
Medea Benjamin shared a story with the activists of a time she visited John Brennan’s house after returning from a trip Code Pink took to Pakistan. She told the group that John Brennan must’ve thought she was selling Girl Scout cookies or something and was acting very nice towards her until she told him about the trip she went on. John Brennan asked “what trip, where did you go?” And when Medea said “Pakistan” and the John Brennan turned Ashen White when she told him about what she saw from the Drone Strikes and it’s victims. Then John Brennan’s wife came and said,, “How dare you come to our house and invade our Privacy”. Medea Benjamin went on to say to crowd,, “How Dare you Bomb Other people’s houses and destroy their lives”, referring to John Brennan.
Singing,, “we’re gonna build a nation, that don’t Torture No one,, but it’s gonna take Courage, for that change to come”,, the activists made their way up the driveway around the 2 Police cars that were blocking the way,, right up to John Brennan’s house where they acted out an mock arrest of John Brennan and the Hooded activists wearing Orange jumpsuits knelt down facing away from John Brennan’s house while Officers began requesting the activists to leave.
