Piqued Jacks: Upturned Perspectives EP – Music Review

20140521_0454With a hint of Chevelle’s Pete Loeffler’s vocal style and sound, Italy’s Piqued Jacks‘ E-King commands a intensely unique funk-alternative brand of music. The four-piece, now based in Austin, has released just two singles thus far. It’s enough to wet the appetite, but teasing us listeners is quite cruel.

“Upturned Perspectives” (title track) has a lush  music bed with changing guitar riffs and up tempo rhythm. They seem to put to sound a packaged party. Drawing comparisons to Incubus, too, this song has a tight feel. Fans that like to jam will want to take a listen.

“No Bazooka” is equally fun and shakes things up. I love the guitar riffs in this one – the opening sequence just clicks immediately. The lyrics are easy to get lost into – but overall, the music orchestrations in both singles take priority. These are both fun songs!
