The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia (2013) – Movie Review

20130529_0259The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia is a 100 minute movie belonging to the drama, horror, thriller genre. The story revolves around a young family who decide to move to an abandoned house near a forested area in Georgia. What is expected as a peaceful place for Lisa, who suffers from an emotional disturbance, proves to be the opposite of what the family wants in the first place. This is very much a psychological film.

The movie is written by David Coggeshall and directed by Tom Elkins. The cast of characters are Abigail Spencer as Lisa Wyrick, Morgana Shaw as Lisa’s Mother, Chad Michael Murray as Andy Wyrick, Emily Alyn Lind as Heidi Wyrick, Grant James as Mr. Gordy and Katee Sackhoff as Joyce.

With a gift inherited from their mother of seeing the souls of the departed, sisters Lisa and Joyce unearth a secret that happened in the past with the people who occupied the house and its surrounding vicinity.

After living peacefully at the house for a short time, they start experiencing strange things and seeing visitors that had died long ago. What terrifies them most is seeing the Dark Figure, which forebodes evil among the spirits surrounding them.

Lisa’s daughter, Heidi, also acquires the gift by seeing an old man in the person of Mr. Gordy. Heidi’s psychic ability allows her to make a friend with Mr. Gordy, but after a while, Mr. Gordy’s presence wanes. The Dark figure is now prominent in Heidi’s dreams. The family holds on to their faith and receives help from other people to drive away the negative, malicious energy that is growing.

What will put a stop to their house being haunted? What are the problems in the past that need to be resolved? Did their moving there destroy the peace of the dead? What can the family do to put the spirits at rest? And is Mr. Gordy, Heidi’s friend, the Dark Figure in disguise?

Emily Alyn Lind’s performance as Heidi is very good! The plot and the story development are all fine. The twist in the end makes the story even more suspenseful. I also like Andy’s performance as he tries to save his daughter even at the cost of his life. In the end, the final battle to save Heidi against the station master belongs to Lisa with the help of  the good spirits.

Although the movie is not as frightening as Amityville or Grave Encounters, it serves its purpose of shedding light on the dilemma of the place being haunted and resonates with me because we also have some visitors in our house who come now and then. Yes! I am a little familiar with ghosts myself. This is a great movie to watch if you have interest in ghosts or supernatural phenomenon.
