Tower Theater, Upper Darby, Pa, 16 April 2012

The Nineties exploded with emerging bands that often have been labeled new metal, alternative, or even often pop rock for their hard driving melodies, signature sound, and numerous catchy hit songs that have paved their way into the hearts of every rock music fan spanning a breed of countless generations. While music as we know it always constantly keeps evolving and churning up some great new talent, we often forget about certain bands that have been an active part of radio and the continuous revolving door of touring circuit and that band is Creed. Since their inception in the late nineties, Creed have earned themselves several top ten singles, multi platinum albums those being My Own Prison and Human Clay.

As if there was any doubt after seeing Creed reunite in 2010 for what many say was the best major comeback with one of the best live performances any music fan that has followed Creed in their early days as a touring band seems as if the band never fell off the rock boat after all. For any major rock act like Creed to do a complete full throttle 360 after more then seven years out of the public eye gives the meaning of new life as a band even with just three major releases during their run.

Currently out on the road supporting yet another run of tour dates, Creed return to Upper Darby Pa jut a skip away from the Philly border to the infamous Tower Theater for two back to back shows. Luckily enough in this market along with 5 other dates Creed pulls out the complete live versions of My Own Prison and Human Clay along with greatest hits rounding out the encores.

My Own Prison put Creed in the limelight with five brilliant hits of that recording alone, which still today can often be heard on active rock radio. It is always great to see any band of any magnitude perform in such an intimate mood setting like the Tower Theater. Any music fan that has a true ear for great acoustics the Tower Theater certainly gives that vibe right down to the bare bone.

While Creed has always been a great band to see live, the lust in having a packed venue seems to rapidly diminish as years pass by for this band. Yet their live shows are nothing short of great. I myself have always been a Creed fan, seen them perform in every venue with many close to a sell out at one time really indicates that times have changed and musical taste has drastically changed but, for most eager fans who still support Creed as a great band have never lost sight of just how great their performances actually are.

Warming up the Tower show during the first of 2 stellar shows in Pa was none other then a band who hails from Queens New York who called themselves Eve to Adam. For the duration of their 45 minute set which kicked off at 7:30 Even to Adam sounded great, warmed of the hot seat for Creed’s later performance. While I enjoy cover songs done by other bands that strikingly pull that off quite well, Even to Adam tossed in Alice Cooper’s Schools Out which sounded great. Again depends how well you can pull off any cover song live determines how good you are as any band.

Being unfamiliar with this band while on stage, from the looks of it gazing around at the show, they do have a cult following, have some popular songs under their belt and have created a buzz in 2011.

After a quick 35 minute change over, the stage was set for Creed which graced the stage promptly at 8:40 to a packed lower level Tower Theater. Some say about 1500 people looked more like around 1800 actually especial all crammed close to the stage which is always the best seat in the house. While Creed performed the entire My Own Prison during the first night of the show, Creed never sounded better with front man Scott Stapp holding the reigns, his voice in still in perfect shape and right on key in every song and chorus which was never a disappointment in previous shows.

Creed’s light show was always that dark and mysterious type of atmosphere at key moments it got bright, got semi dark, then got totally back lit which has often been Creeds trademark in their unique stage production. It was great to see everyone in rare form singing along to the core of hits spawned from My Own Prison especially songs like Torn, One, Arms Wide Open, and Higher.

Each of those songs never sounded more freshly polished live then ever before. Defiantly no better way to see Creed on this tour in an up close and personal venue like the Tower Theater. Even if many of these songs can often be out played on the radio, I can say that hearing the entire CD for the first time on this 5 city back to back tour among the rest of the massive dates, Creed can still turn it way up and put on one hell of an amazing show.
