New Orleans quintet Empress Hotel have announced a national fall tour with Van Hunt. The group has been in the studio working on their debut full-length, the followup to their self-titled debut EP, which was released this past spring on Park the Van (Generationals, Dr. Dog). Performing this weekend at Raleigh, NC’s Hopscotch Festival, the band are putting the final touches on their forthcoming LP (due in Spring 2012), and will join Van Hunt through October, with headlining dates soon to follow.
Empress Hotel is a pop revivalist posse, made up of a group of college dropouts, some New Orleans party buddies, and Mexican food enthusiasts. They came together to share their love of timeless pop gems. Their varied musical tastes and influences all funnel into a singular vision that melds 1970s glam-pop and dance-infused R&B, with their American Rock-n-Roll idols, Fleetwood Mac, Prince, Van Morrison and Paul Simon among them. Throw in some shimmering, nostalgic keyboard lines and sun-splashed vocal harmonies, and you’ve only brushed the surface of what Empress Hotel is getting at.
