The A.K.A’s (Are Everywhere!): Everybody Make Some Noise! — Music Review

If punk is your thing, add this album to your stash. The A.K.A.’s (Are Everywhere!) eat, sleep, and bleed punk rock.  And their sophomore album (but first full length album), Everybody Make Some Noise! has stayed true to those habits.  From the first heavy drumbeat in the album opener “This is the Way We Move” to Mike Ski’s vocal conviction throughout the album, The A.K.A.’s (Are Everywhere!) give the 17-year-old punk kid something to relate to; not a simple endeavor.   Most important of all, The A.K.A.’s (Are Everywhere!) give listeners a means of expression; an anthem of sorts.

Reminiscent of late 60’s and 70’s punk bands, yet original in their own right, The A.K.A.’s (Are Everywhere!) have found their calling in a genre that is not necessarily unrestricted.  They have somehow found a way to attract punks from all ends of the spectrum.  Their catchy lyrics make for a smart, yet simple way to communicate a message or, for all intensive purposes, “make some serious noise”.

In songs like “Paranoia is a Skill” and “Dead Flowers Forever” Josie Outlaw’s use of the keyboard adds a bit of lightness to an overall heavy sound; just enough that the music is not so much understated, but not yet overpowered.  Most of their tracks are a product of the effective combination of the guitar and bass guitar, as well as Chachi Darin’s performance on the drums.  The 12-track album features guest appearances from true punk rockers—Hawthorne Heights’ JT Woodruff, Chris #2 of Anti-Flag, and Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys—a clever undertaking in creating a dependable fan base.

The A.K.A.’s (Are Everywhere!) have an attitude and an approach that will send them straight on their way to notoriety.  This band from the City of Brotherly Love emanates an enthusiasm and devotion that is hard to come by these days.  These punks love what they do and their passion shows in their music.
