3rd Annual Girls Rock & Girls Rule Showcase
Presented by Revolutionary Records
Benefit for the Battered Women’s Resource Center, Voices of Women
Organizing Project (V.O.W)
Join us on Friday, December 10 when some unique and special rockin’ NYC
ladies take to the stage to share their music for a very important cause!
V.O.W. provides women with the opportunity to organize, develop their
leadership skills and effect policy in NYC. Survivors of domestic
violence are given the training and support they need to influence, change
and improve the systems that allow domestic violence to continue. "I
think it is fitting that women musicians are lending their voices to
benefit V.O.W. Together we can make a real difference in the lives of
battered women and their children", says Susan Lob, Director of the
Battered Women’s Resource Center, which staffs VOW.
This year’s Girls Rock & Girls Rule show will take place Fri. Dec. 10
at Blaggard’s Pub. There is a $10.00 tax-deductible donation & proceeds
will benefit The Voices of Women Organizing Project (V.O.W.) of the
Battered Women\'s Resource Center.
The female musicians performing in Girls Rock & Girls Rule are
amazingly talented performers and songwriters, balancing multiple careers,
motherhood and more. Still, they are finding time to give back to their
communities while pursuing their passions of musical dreams and visions.
Who are these Girls Who Rock & Rule the World? (OK maybe they don’t
rule the world yet, but give them time because eventually one way or
another they will!). This year’s line-up includes Maria Christensen, who
has written Top 40 hits for Celine Dion, Jennnifer Lopez and N-SYNC,
Maggie Kim, of the first Jane Magazine/ Maybelline reader\'s CD contest &
recently selected as a Budweiser Tru-Music artist, as well as these
other fantastic local artists; Florence Yoo, G-spot, Loki-the-Grump, Black
Flamingo, & Kittyhawk. To read more about this stellar line-up of
ladies please peruse the short artist Bios attached.
Revolutionary Records was founded by G-spot’s lead singer, Gail
Silverman, their first event Girls Rock & Girls Rule took place in December
2002 at the legendary Meow Mix in NYC. "Showcasing an eclectic, yet
unified roster of bands, Gail and her cohorts are well on their way to
creating the nurturing musical community that is the label’s goal... can’t
wait to see what other bands will have jumped on the roster for their next
showcase..." said Mike Wheaton, Good Times Magazine. In 2003 in an
effort to give back to the community & help empower other women they decided
to use the platform to assist V.O.W. in their fundraising efforts. The
primary mission of Revolutionary Records is to bring together
Independent artists to create unique opportunities to bring much needed exposure
to all the great talent that may not be having their voices heard. By
partnering with fellow artists and working together as a team, these
performers help each other stand out in a cluttered and saturate!
d marketplace.
So come join them, hear some incredible music, get up close and
personal with these fascinating, fabulous, super sexy femmes while helping a
cause that helps women be everything they can be and more! Also up for
grabs are fabulous prizes including a day of studio recording time from
Threshold Music, fabulous cosmetics from Tony & Tina, a rejuvenating
facial from Euphoria Spa, a luxurious cashmere throw from Red Envelope
and other surprises. GRGR thanks Rockrgrl Magazine for their support of
Girls Rock & Girls Rule as well as XL Graphics & Shandon Fowler who
donated printing and graphic design services for the event.

music has a poppy buoyancy & her & her bandmates have been compared "to
an Asian female contemporary version of the Monkees handling ballads &
happy loud songs with equal skill" says the Greenwich Village Gazette.
She is currently composing the music for several songs for Julia Cho\'s
new comedy, \"Bay and the Spectacles of Doom\" for the children\'s

Gail Silverman, lead singer of G-spot is a siren who commands her
audience’s attention by juxtaposing her sassy wit & her naked vulnerability,
her magnetism & her enlightenment, her wrath & her passion, with a
no-holds barred delivery of emotion. G-spot’s most recent release "Come
Here Go Away" produced by award-winning songwriter Lorraine Ferro, is
receiving rave reviews; "this girl can\'t miss. I can’t pick a favorite
track! Every track on this CD is hotter than Britney’s & Christina’s
hottie-hot pants sexy good looks combined". Says Kelly McTiernan, Indie
Music Magazine. In addition to be the founder of Revolutionary Records &

Loki the Grump, fronted by Michele Jaffe, has a mission of \"puttin\'
the FUN back in GRUMP\"! They believe in getting your aggression out
the good ole fashioned way - jump, dance, scream, shout, stomp & sing as
LOUD as you possibly can! In other words, GET GRUMPY The band, who has
been described by fans (including the drummer of legendary punk band
Stiff Little Fingers) as comparable to XRay Specs meets Vice Squad meets
Hole with a sprinkle of Garbage, has just released their 5-song EP on
Jafzi Records - much to the delight of their rabid fan base. Michele -
this year\'s recipient of the Abe Olman Scholarship Award through the
Songwriters Hall of Fame for \"Excellence in Songwriting\" - has gone
from being a poetess/lyricist, writing songs & playing drums in punk &
goth-rock bands, to singing/performing center stage, as well as writing
pop hits for other artists. In addition, she is a woman who makes a
positive difference in the world! She has organized many benefits/ev!
ents for causes as large as the CityKids Foundation in New York, to a
small fundraiser for a fellow musician in a time of need. On top of
all that she is also a co-founder of the creative artists network Jafzi
Entertainment, Inc. and still holds down a day gig... or two!

Kittyhawk’s first album, Kill Devil Hills, garnered rave reviews in
national & local press alike, was added to rotation on over 200 FM
stations nationwide, and sold over 2,000 copies. The combination of the
success of the album along with Kittyhawk’s powerful live show has earned
the band a large and devoted following in the New York tri-State area
and, more recently, Washington DC. Kittyhawk is currently increasing
their touring schedule in anticipation of their second release, \"From the
Mouths of Babes\", expected in early 2005, in which lead singer &
songwriter Jen Zablocki explores issues such as domestic violence, incest &
abuse, and female sexuality. The band is proud to have led a team in
the NY AIDS Walk for three years in a row, and been involved in
supporting other important causes such as Big Brother/Big Sisters of America,
protecting the
environment, and defending a woman\'s right to choose.
