Yak Ballz: Scifentology II - Music Review

There is a Queens, N.Y. underground rapper that brings dignity to a genre so commonly not appreciated and utilized for its great potential to counteract the toxic elements in mainstream music. The loyal fan base of Yak Balls is growing quickly because of the brilliantly cunning, and charismatic lyrics and the innovative beats he expresses his shrewdly intelligent perspective through. The number one rule that Yak Ballz respects about the driving force beating the heart of the underground rap scene is to not sell out by conforming to any of the traditional stereotypes associated with rap music. His artistic integrity is undeniable. He is not influenced by the stigma most people hold to be true that pursuing an underground rap career is a dead end route that cannot produce a lasting change. Unlike many of his counterparts, this is not his hobby, and is not willing to hide behind a veil of ridiculous humor, extreme vulgarity, overtly political rants, drug abuse centered narratives, or violent images, which would only provide further credibility for the majority opinion people have about underground rap’s general uselessness. All of these essential elements do resonate from his lyrics, but in an eloquent manner that his peers should take notes on. These are the aspects of the underground artists’ lives and surrounding culture that has provided these tools to be used for their expression. The point isn’t to escape the seemingly inferior frustrations of being an artist in a place like Queens, N.Y. Its to express the credible and insightful voice of the underground artist. Yak Ballz is showing the underground hip-hop rap scene how this is done, not how he can do what everyone else from better conditions can do.
The lyrics are expressed with such a great level of intelligence, humility, and a humbleness that you’ll respect what he has to say, as well as feel that this artist has respect for what other people have to say. Aside from enjoying that his lyrics do not bombard you with arrogant lectures or sad cathartic rants, the beats are also amazingly smooth and original. He is not a defeated underground artist submitting to the bitterness that can easily emerge from the circumstances and obstacles that comes with going against the grain in today’s society. His audience relates to his frustrations, but is not left drained of hope because of his obvious determination to persevere in his own way, and by maintaining his self-respect and pride intact every step of the way. There is also much to be said for his tasteful use of humor and wit throughout the album.
The aesthetic quality of the great sound for every single track adds to the convincing argument Scifentology II presents that Yak Ballz deserves our respect for being a hardworking artist that is true to himself, as well as to his audiences’ needs. For me to pick the lyrics apart, presenting pieces of proof that Scifentology II is worth checking out would be an insult to the obvious care Yak Ballz took in crafting something intended to be appreciated in its entirety. My guess is the name Yak Ballz is a filtering device for earning a quality fan base of intelligent people with truly good taste in music and not those that buy into the hype that underground rap ultimately wishes to abolish. Because the beats are all on-point enough to enjoy without understanding what Yak Ballz has to say, it is possible for people to overlook the harmony that is achieved with his high quality lyrics, vocals, and beats. When an artist exposes himself with as much talent as Yak Ballz has developed, they shouldn’t accept an audience valuing his work as anything less. Yak Ballz has raised the bar considerably high for how close he has come to achieving the underground rap artist’s ideal vision for what this genre claims to be ultimately working towards within the grand scheme of the music world.
