The Clorox Girls: J'aime Les Filles - Music Review

My oh, my. Someone sure likes the Ramones. The Clorox Girls are trying very hard with this album to sound like late 70's/super early 80's punk rock. The songs take longer to upload than they do to actually listen to. But hey, I'm not complaining.
The songs are catchy like the Ramones, only a little too polished for old skool punk, not to a Green Day degree but to a comfortable level. The songs are formulaic, verse/chorus/verse guitar/drums/vocals/bass with no real deviations - no solos or even semblance of a bridge in some of them. If you're down with that kind of thing, the Clorox Girls work great. If I didn't live too far away to have parties, I wouldn't be ashamed to throw this on in the background. The Clorox Girls are pretty alright to listen to on their own, there are some melodies lurking under those formulas but they'd work best as background.
One thing the Clorox Girls do great is place a large emphasis on the bass, which I'm a sucker for, "Nothings Too Deep" is a great example right there. The only problem with it is soon after you just get in to it, it ends abruptly as do..well, all of their songs really. Another one of the Clorox Girls' strength is in their vocals - the lead singer has a convincing enough "I was there when punk rock started, you little shit," voice and their melodies are ridiculously catchy - see "Stuck Inside a Hole" and then tell me to my face that they're not.
All in all, pretty ok album. If somebody gave me it, I wouldn't be above throwing it on after I listened to a band like the Rezillos or something. On the whole though, I'd save my money for seeing the Clorox Girls live.
