The Destiny Program: Subversive Blueprint - Music Review

The Destiny Program doesn't create anything particularly groundbreaking or new but what it does is farther the popularity of "metalcore"
Formerly known simply as Destiny, The Destiny Program's third album, "Subversive Blueprint" kicks off with " The Personal Revolution" a tune with the the lyrics "It's our duty to die for this cliché." And a cliché sound is what this band offers.
Musically the band is talented but the cookie cutter sound is the same that many bands of this genre that takes away The Destiny Program's chance of being unique and drawing in older more mature fans. Fans of the metalcore genre will jump right into this band but after a listen or two they will realize it is the same music as every other metalcore band that is gaining popularity and they will quickly be forgotten.
The music is loud, fast and brutal on occasion but then it will splice in music and lyrics that could be found on a Fall Out Boy record. The lead singer does have talent and his growls and screams are intense and he also shows off a softer side by singing some lyrics that could be mistake for one of the bizillion emo or pop punk bands that seemingly have taken over the radio airwaves.
The band attempts satire of sarcasm with singing lyrics like "the way we break it down" over an actual breakdown would have many traditional hardcore and metal fans chuckling at its stupidity and simplicity. Most listeners will have trouble taking lyrics like "Freedom is not dead, it starts within us" and "Feel the rebellion/ Tomorrow is dead" seriously.
This album will definitely sell to the "mall metal" kids who have jumped on the bandwagon of this genre of music. I would not be surprised at all to see this band featured at Hot Topic. I enjoyed the album for what it was but it gives nothing earth shattering would I purchase the album and listen to many times, probably not but is it worth a one time listen? Sure, I will give anything a shot once, considering I am fan of metal and hardcore and even listen to some metalcore. The metalcore genre is littered with bands who take this type of sound and do well with it, listen to Darkest Hour's 2007 album "Deliver Us" to see what the genre can truly offer..
Decent vocals and a good recording will gain the album some popularity among the suburban mall metal kids who let Hot Topic decide on what their favorite music is will love this album. For serious heavy metal/hardcore fans this is just another attempt at recreating a sound that everyone seems to be falling into along with cliche lyrics the album will just be listed as another medicore attempt at metalcore success.
The Destiny Program will bring more "push" pits and teenagers to shows which hopefully will give them the chance to hear other bands of this genre and others that will enlighten them to seek out the more talented and important bands of the genre.
