Jaclyn Brown, on her official site bio states, "I can't sing a Kid Rock song, but maybe I can write one." Although her musical sound is vastly different from Kid Rock's, Jaclyn Brown does prove she deserves recognition for her songwriting and vocal abilities on her album, "Easy Love."
Just as the title suggests, Brown creates songs that are lovely and warm. Sometimes, like in ‘Where You Are" the material teems too much with mushy sugar lumps. In other instances, such as in the track "Easy Love" she discusses how she interprets romance and working through hardships. In the "The Riddle," she builds up anticipation by repeating questions and rhymes ("What makes me cry/ then fall down with laughter / what's the beginning of /happy ever after?") yet leaves listeners guessing with a simple response -"that's the riddle." With romantic guitar-strung beats, she smoothes out any rough bumps with a soothingly clear octave range. Devoid of unnecessary growling and high-pitched nonsense, the album features songs similar to a respectable novel- pure, poignant, and simple in terms of complexity.
Jaclyn Brown aims to show what life is ultimately about and what most people desire - it's "all [people] dream of"—and it's love."
