The first track I listened to was S.O.S. and at first I wasn't really liking it then the chorus hit and I thought.. hmmmm.. ain't so bad. The music was a combination of electric and acoustic which is nice - the vocal range here is very much a reminder of the Black Crowes. It's very soulful, unpolished and bluesy. It's one of those songs I would love to tackle on Rock Band!
The band doesn't rock me through all the way. Not every song gave me the same gut reaction as the first. "Send Me An Angel" is a great ballad with some teeth. Others like "The Way I Feel" is like bad karaoke. "Open Up The Door" is a horrible Jimmy Buffet pseudo religious tune that is just annoying on many levels yet uncharted - I thought my ears were going to bleed. Ok - that was a bit harsh.. it was more putrid than it was fragrant.
The song "Bubble" had me, out of the box, saying "what the hell is that?" - and to my chagrin it was a VERY bad mockery of Jamaican Soul - I'm sorry Bob Marley that someone had to mock your musical style with this mess of just simply poor lyrics, boredom-laced music and bad vocals to boot.
The album kind of went all over the place. It started out good then switched rails to be some poppy, eclectic religious diatribe and if that's your thing - then wonderful. All in all the music was ok, not superb. Vocals were great on some songs and other fell dramatically short. Look for it in the Wal-Mart $1.99 bin.
