Steven Messenger's music is in a category all its own. Sometimes it's atmospheric, surprising, or even catchy and modern, like in "Edge of the Wall." Other times it just sounds juvenile with its high and jumpy notes, like in "You Are Here." Most of the songs seem like someone was just testing out the different sounds on a generic keyboard to try and create new music. I suppose when one gets tired of conventional music heard over and over on the radio then one can listen to Steven Messenger. In the end I'm left with an impression that is just as vague as Messenger's widely varied, experimental, sometimes entertaining music.
