Kirsten Dehaan: Conform - Music Review

Kirsten Dehaan has sweet, little girl vocals in a somewhat Gwen Stefani-vein. The difference is, Gwen had a more diverse band behind her. Kirsten's bands ok, I guess, but nothing really stands out. Her vocals aren't stellar but with the right kind of music (like Gwen Stefani realized) I wouldn't know that.
Some of these are ok, with the neat bass line of 'The Money Sinner' but others range into 'didn't I just hear this in a shampoo commercial?' realm, like 'On Your Own'. Once reaching that realm, no amount of electric guitars can save you, Kirsten or give you any street cred.
Throughout this whole album, I feel like I can literally hear this band holding Kirsten (or just her vocals) back.
I wouldn't buy this album but I wouldn't erase Kirsten from my myspace friends just yet either. I'd wait til she gets this whole thing outta her system and I'd be there for her once she makes her way to Saddle Creek.
