Autonomadic: The Missionary - Music Review

I had so many problems retyping this retarded name. However, getting past that and actually listening, I was pleasantly surprised. Think early, early Rancid only without the amazingness of Matt Freeman's bass lines and more of a Social Distortion influence. But who really has Matt Freeman bass lines anyways these days? And if you think Rancids a poor example of punk rock today, you can blow yourself and turn in your studs and plaid at the door.
At times, Autonomadic sounds like they're even leaning towards Tim Armstrong-esq vocals, in songs like "Ziggy the Zygote", so much so that I could believe this was early Rancid even. Say, if I had been drinking all night or something. I keep going on and on about the Rancid connection but you have no idea how pleased I am to find a band that somewhat sounds like Rancid that's not US Bombs. Other times, the vocals range from Mike Ness (you're gonna talk smack about me going on about Rancid and then not even know who Mike Ness is?) to Eric Bachmann, who is decidedly unpunk rock anyway.
From what I can tell lyric-wise, the lyrics make about as much sense as a Rancid song as well, although they are the same level of fun to just listen to the whole, rather than break down parts of it.
The Eric Bachmann thing was a test really and I didn't actually expect anyone to know Archers of Loaf. If you do though, Autonomadic has a very slight similar slant to early 90's indie/grunge like they did (because they kinda actually are earl 90s, indie/grunge) with similar bored but heavy guitars that you've heard and enjoyed before.
I'd go to see Autonomadic at shows for songs like 'The Missionary' (is this Rancid singing about converting me though?) and I'd stay in and paint (I mean, if I COULD paint or do something similar) to the rest of this EP thing when the album starts veering more towards that more mellow indie/grunge feel around "Sickness".
I'd break down and buy it if they threw on some more songs of similar quality and it was ridiculously cheap. But for now, I'd accept burned copies of the album so far and would actually listen to these songs again.
All in all, good band if you appreciate Rancid and early 90s indie/grunge.
